Severe Storms Leave Tens of Thousands Without Power Across Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA — Severe storms moving across Oklahoma overnight left tens of thousands of residents without electricity, impacting communities across the state and prompting utility crews to begin widespread restoration efforts.

According to utility reports, power outages steadily increased throughout the early morning hours as storms brought strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall to parts of the state.

As of the latest update, approximately 78,020 customers statewide were reported without power. Of those, 47,557 customers served by OG&E were experiencing outages.

Oklahoma County Hit Hard

Oklahoma County has been among the hardest-hit areas, with more than 26,000 customers reported without electricity during the height of the outages.

The number of affected customers continued to fluctuate throughout the morning as storm conditions evolved and utility crews worked to assess damage.

Outage Numbers Rose Overnight

Power outage reports increased significantly over several hours:

  • 3:19 AM: 26,663 OG&E customers without power.
  • 3:28 AM: 33,077 customers affected, representing approximately 4.4% of OG&E customers.
  • 4:00 AM: 39,267 customers reported without power.
  • 4:23 AM: Nearly 69,000 customers statewide without electricity.
  • Latest Update: More than 78,000 customers statewide affected.

The growing outage totals suggest additional storm-related damage occurred as the severe weather system moved through Oklahoma during the overnight hours.

Restoration Efforts Underway

OG&E initially estimated restoration times between 9:45 AM and 10:30 AM for many affected areas. However, the utility later indicated that changing conditions had impacted those projections.

In a statement, OG&E said:

“Repairs are underway, although the circumstances surrounding this outage have changed. Restoration times will be provided as they become available.”

Utility crews have been deployed across affected areas to assess damage, repair downed power lines, and restore service as safely and quickly as possible.

Safety Reminder

Officials encourage residents to stay away from downed power lines and report any hazardous conditions to local authorities or their utility provider. Drivers are also urged to use caution around utility crews working along roadways.

Customers experiencing outages can monitor restoration updates through their utility provider’s outage tracking systems and official communications channels.

As restoration efforts continue, officials are encouraging residents to prepare for the possibility of extended outages in some locations depending on the extent of storm damage.

More updates will be provided as information becomes available.
